Bonjour mes amis,
I am so excited to have so many new friends that I want to have a give-away to celebrate and I think I have the perfect gift. Whilst at a fleamarket recently, I managed to find a copy of 'L'illustration Journal Universal' dated 9th September 1911. This is the french version of an illustrated newspaper.
You are such a creative lot that I'm sure you already have a million ideas mulling around your head. A very French thing to do would be an old technique called 'decoupage'.
Decoupage is a technique where images from printed material, wallpaper, napkins were used by cutting out the designs and gluing them usually onto furniture. After application the surface is then sealed with a varnish. It can also be combined with special paint effects, gold leave etc. The traditional technique used 30–40 layers of varnish which were then sanded to a polished finish. Here are a couple of images using similar techniques;
Whatever you decide to make with these amazing historical pages, I'm sure will be fabulous. I have spent hours just pawing over the pages enjoying the ads for new inventions, articles about events of the times.
So, what do you have to do to be in the running for the chance to win? It's really easy, leave me a comment below this post together with contact details and give this blogging some of your loving by following me.
I am willing to post this journal worldwide, so don't be shy, pop in an say 'bonjour'.
I am away until the 18th June and will make the draw on the 19th.
Bon Chance & Bisous
