Today was my 2nd mosaic class.
I love to learn new things and when my dear friend encouraged me to give it a try, I thought why not. During the 4 years I spent in Cyprus, I joined a local group of artists in a gorgeous antiquated studio in Limassol. It was my cappuccino pal who introduced me and I have to say at first I was really skeptical as I thought I wasn't very artistic but with the help of a fantastic teacher, a little faith and the encouragement of my friend, I produced several artworks which I am really proud of.
I found it quite difficult adjusting to life in Cyprus, it's not easy starting over in a new country and although the job which my husband accepted was a good one, I went with my feet dragging leaving friends and a life I loved behind. As it turned out, my twice a week trip to art class was my saviour. I made new friends and I was doing something for myself which was liberating, you mum's out there will know what I mean when I say that.
I'm expecting mosaic class will do the same for me with the added benefit of being French which hopefully will improve mine! In the initial class, I learnt how to create the form of a sculpture, I love the shape of hearts so decided to make a 3D chunky one.
It's on a long rod because I had a super idea - how perfect it would be to have it stuck into a large terracotta pot filled with a beautiful lemon tree bearing juicy fruit? Which by the way, will make wonderful fresh lemonade and a great additive to my Bombay Sapphire!
That dream is in the making and this picture is just how I imagine my lemon tree to be. So today I went to class with a skip in my walk and got to work on the second phase, covering it with mosaic created from sheets of beautiful hand made glass.
I can't believe it took me 3hrs to only do this much, I guess patience is something else I am going to learn!
Have a great weekend, I hope the sun shines for you.
